Ditching Toxins for Fertility

A Holistic Approach - Part 1

In the pursuit of a healthy and fulfilling life, many couples are focusing on preconception health as a crucial step towards starting a family. For women and their partners looking to conceive, the journey begins long before a positive pregnancy test. A significant aspect of this preconception journey is eliminating harmful substances from our daily routines. In this blog post, we'll explore the importance of ditching 4 conventional items.

The Preconception Puzzle

When it comes to fertility, it's essential to view it as a puzzle with many pieces. Diet, exercise, stress management, and toxin exposure all play a role. One piece of this puzzle that often goes unnoticed is the harmful chemicals we encounter daily in our homes and personal care products.

Toxic Tide (or other commercial detergent)

Conventional laundry detergents, is a common household product that contains a cocktail of chemicals. These chemicals can leave residues on our clothes, which then come into contact with our skin. Research has linked some of these chemicals to hormonal disruption and reproductive issues. Switching to natural and toxin-free laundry detergents is a simple yet powerful step towards reducing toxin exposure.

Fragrance Follies

Fragrance is a ubiquitous ingredient in personal care products, from shampoos to lotions to perfumes. However, the term "fragrance" can hide a multitude of chemicals, many of which are known endocrine disruptors. These chemicals can interfere with hormone balance, potentially affecting fertility. Opting for fragrance-free or naturally scented products can reduce this hidden toxin source.

Conventional Antiperspirant Deodorant

Conventional antiperspirant deodorants contain aluminum compounds and other chemicals that block sweat glands, preventing perspiration. While staying dry is desirable, this comes at a cost. Aluminum has been linked to hormone disruption, and studies have raised concerns about its potential impact on fertility. Switching to natural deodorants free from aluminum can help mitigate this risk.

Plastic Predicament

Plastic is everywhere in our modern lives, from food containers to water bottles to household items. However, many plastics contain harmful chemicals like BPA and phthalates, which can mimic hormones in the body. These hormone-disrupting chemicals can throw off the delicate balance needed for fertility. Reducing plastic use, especially for food storage and preparation, is a wise choice for couples looking to conceive.

A Holistic Approach to Fertility

I work with couples to help eliminate or minimize toxins from their everyday life. The approach is through baby steps, I have been on this journey for over 8 years and I still find things I can change for a healthier outcome. 4 things to think about:

  • I would personally swap conventional laundry detergent for Truly Free

  • I would personally swap fragrance or perfumes for essential oils or Skylar Perfume

  • I would personally swap antiperspirant for deodorant more specifically Primally Pure

  • I would personally swap plastic for glassware such as pyrex glass storage containers or glass/stainless steel for drinking

Fertility is a complex journey that involves various factors, and minimizing toxin exposure is a critical piece of the puzzle. As a consultant specializing in preconception health, I help empower my clients to make small changes to their health ultimately increasing their chances of conception and a successful pregnancy.
